FoW insta-death. Bug?
Okay.. I'm putting this post here but if it belongs somewhere else feel free to move it. I'm not leet forum user.
I did fow with some americans this morning, pug-style. We had completed all quests and were chasing the shard wolves when we suddenly insta-died with a message saying we had failed. Who can tell me what went wrong, or was it possibly a bug?
All other quests completed.
The pops around the battlegrounds ghosts cleared.
Only one shard wolf left on the beach, where is where we died also.
None of the ghosts that show in party window were dead.
We were fighting some driftwood and skales just at the entrance to the beach when it happened, and they were using their regular skills no Fury of God Insta Wipe or anything.
Does anyone have any ideas?

i'm pretty sure those Shard wolf are hostile to the other foes in FoW. maybe they got killed by ancient scale or others.

It definitely sounds like an essential NPC somewhere died.
It annoys me greatly how this happens. It used to happen in UW where a group of Grasping Darknesses would make their way to one of Grenth's Avatars but we wouldn't be aware of the patrol. It's common sense to clear foes that threaten NPCs but sometimes the patrol paths in FoW/UW are so long that you don't always notice them.

Could be tower mage fault's? In a guild run we died because of him (we guess, at least...)

Yeah. It's seems like it's best to:
1. Clear.
2. Make quests in the safest order.

That still wouldn't cause you to get kicked out, though, it would simply fail the quest. And if I remember correctly, if a Shard Wolf gets killed by another enemy group, it still counts towards the objective.
My best bet would be that the Tower Mage got killed, but as you say, you finished all other quests, so that can't be it then.
Odd.

I have an idea myself now that I think about it. Is it possible to fail if a griffon dies AFTER you have completed the quest?
We did the beginning a little differently from what I'm used to. We didn't trigger the patrols coming from the beach at the beginning, so it's quite possible that one of those swept by the tower that rastigan hides in and somehow aggroed the remaining griffs inside and killed them. Rastigan was at full health, however.
I have done fow many times, but I haven't paid much attention to the griffs after quest completion. I guess they just hang out with Rastigan.

You failed because a quest NPC died.

Actually this has happened to me too. Myself and a few guildmates were clearing FoW, and acutally managed to clear Fow (thank God for consumables). We had just wiped the last shard wolf on the beach, and were running back to get our chest, when the game just kills us. Now, the game says we finished all teh quests, and we got that little victory message. All NPCs on the party screen had full HP and I assume the Tower Mage didn't cause we cleared the area over there.
Whatever though, I got credit to put the trophy in my HoM.

Not all NPC's show in the party bar if I remember correctly.
Megaman - You're lucky. When I done this with SMS, we cleared and got nothing.

Theres a whole thread about what may have happened. The most likely reason shown in there is that they didn't clear all the patorls by the Tower were the griffons are and one of the patrols agrooed the griffons and killed them. Even after completing the quest you still die if they die.
On a sidenote, out of the 4 times I have cleared with SMS, never once have we failed and that is because we cleared everywhere. And ya, not all of the NPC's show up on the party bar.

I wonder if a shard wolf spawned close enough to agro onto an NPC and killed him?
Are you positive that all other quests were completed?
If somebody activated another quest but you never completed it, say the griffons....

You get 4 npcs in your party window, all of which were alive.
Area around wailing lord cleared, and he isnt attacked anyway.
Area around tower mage cleared.
Area around forgemaster and book-quest cleared.
Nimros(wolf-quest guy) isn't attacked and neither is the quest-guy near the burning forest.
No npcs on the beach can die.
Like I said the only solution I can think of are the griffs. Live and learn, even after 3 years of fow runs.
Thanks for all the replies by the way.

I'm 100% sure its the griffon that died.
As you know the griffons lock up against the wall when you deliver them to the first tower, the shardwolf is aggros them and kills them slowly, i'll upload a screenshot as proof soon.
